Dr. Alan M. Byrne – Medical Director

Dr. Alan M. Byrne works as a General Practitioner, team doctor to the Republic of Ireland Senior International Team and a Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Beacon Hospital.
Alan graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1985 with an Honours Degree in Medicine. He established his own practice in South Dublin in 1990 and has been working in Sports Medicine since 1993. Alan first became involved in football medicine, as team doctor at Shelbourne F.C. in 1993. He remained in this role for six seasons until 1999.
Alan’s passion for sport was combined with his love of medicine in 2000, when he completed a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine at UCD. He has been the consulting sports physician for Shamrock Rovers F.C. since 2000. Alan has also worked for a brief period as team doctor in the English Premier League with Fulham F.C in 2011.
Alan is a founding fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. He was elected to the Board of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2011 and is on the Specialist Register of Sports and Exercise medicine.
